Water, Fire & Smoke Damage Restoration FAQs

What is the first thing I do after a fire?
When a fire breaks out in your home or office, immediately call 911. Once emergency services have handled the blaze, then call Restoration 1 of Central Denver. We’ll arrive quickly to mitigate damage and provide fire and smoke damage restoration.
How long does it take to cleanup fire damage?
Our team works quickly and efficiently to tackle fire damage in your home or business. Typically, we require anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, depending on the scope of the damage and affected areas.
Can I inspect my home and belongings after fire damage?
We do not recommend letting anyone enter the building until our team has had an opportunity to examine the damage firsthand. The risk of further damage, injury, or contamination is far too high at the moment.
Should I try cleaning myself?
At Restoration 1 of Central Denver, we are equipped and trained to handle fire damage and smoke contamination. Let our team handle the cleanup process.
What will happen to the items left in the home during a fire restoration?
Any item left in your home will be thoroughly assessed for damage, salvaged from the property, and restored if possible. If the item is too far gone, we will dispose of it as necessary.
What are some safety concerns?
Following a serious house fire, the risk of structural components collapsing and airborne contamination are quite high. We do not recommend anyone besides our team entering the property.
What items do I keep in my possession?
You may not have an opportunity to grab any of your possessions when escaping from a fire. During the restoration process, we will salvage what we can and return items to you promptly.
How do I keep track of non-restorable items?
During the restoration process, we keep a detailed inventory of any items we discover in the property and their overall condition.
What about special items? Artwork, china, heirlooms, etc.
We do our very best to salvage and restore as many items as possible. If you have any unique, special items you would like us to focus on, then please let our team know ahead of time. Provide us with a detailed description and last known location of specific items.
Who is responsible for paying for the service?
You may wish to speak with your insurance company regarding who will pay for services. Most often, filing a claim with your insurance provider will ensure you receive coverage for the damages. You may pay out of pocket for some repairs or minor renovations, though.
Do you communicate with my insurance adjuster?
We make ourselves available to answer any questions the insurance adjuster may have.
What if my house has asbestos or lead?
If your home does have asbestos or lead, fret not. Our team is equipped and trained to handle such contaminants and materials with a strong focus on safety. If the situation is too severe, we call in an expert to handle the matter.
What if I’d like to upgrade or remodel my house?
Restoration 1 of Central Denver wishes to restore your home to its previous condition or better. As such, we can provide upgrades and minor remodeling work. However, for more extensive work or additions, you may wish to speak with a local contractor instead.
What are some common effects of water damage?
Water damage can lead to numerous problems, including mold growth, warped flooring, crumbling ceilings, and other structural concerns throughout the property.
What does the water damage restoration process involve?
During the water damage restoration process, we bring in advanced restoration equipment to remove standing water, dry affected areas, decontaminate everything, salvage your possessions, and restore any damage we find.
How does the water damage restoration process work?
We begin with a thorough assessment to better understand the extent of the water damage. From there, we work to remove standing water and dry affected areas. We often need to remove carpeting and padding to either salvage or dispose of. Then, we clean and dehumidify the area to prevent worsening damage and mold growth. Our process is guaranteed to work.
How much does it cost to fix water damage?
The cost to repair and restore water damage varies depending on the amount of work required.
What are the major causes of flood damage and water damage?
Most water damage is caused by burst pipes, leaking appliances, rainwater, flooding, and hidden moisture within your home.
Can water damage be hidden? If so, what are the signs?
Absolutely – a hidden plumbing leak is a regular occurrence in many households. The signs of such water damage tend to include an unpleasant smell, mold growth, warped flooring, and peeling paint on the walls and ceiling.
What actions do I take when I first notice the damage?
When you spot water damage, you should start airing out the affected area promptly. Turn on any nearby fans, open the windows, and turn up the air conditioning system. Then, give us a call for prompt water damage restoration.
How do I hire a professional restoration company?
You’ll want to begin by exploring online reviews and services offered by local companies. Once you find what you’re looking for, it is as easy as picking up the phone and calling.
How do I file a claim for water damage?
You’ll want to review your insurance policy, first and foremost. Many homeowner’s insurance policies cover various forms of water damage. Then, call our insurance company with a detailed list of any damaged items and photographs of the damages, too.
